Being a fully volunteer-driven affair, it takes a great deal of time and effort to plan, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone involved. Hello Campers! Barcamp Bangalore is back this year and ready to inspire, educate and connect people. If you’re looking for a platform to share, discuss and learn from your peers, then Barcamp is the place to be. This free event will be held on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, at RV University in Bangalore, and we can’t wait to see you there!

Barcamp Bangalore is an unconference where you can participate in open discussions, connect with like-minded individuals, and learn new things in a friendly and informal environment. This event is not just for tech enthusiasts, it’s for anyone who wants to share their passion, contribute, and learn something new. From history to art, all topics are welcome!

If you’re interested in speaking at the event, simply sign up on the Barcamp Bangalore website and submit your session proposal by clicking on the “Add a session” button. There is no selection process, speakers for Barcamp are selected on a first-come, first-serve way on the day of the event. This is your chance to showcase your ideas and insights and connect with a passionate and diverse community of learners. For those who have attended Barcamp in the past, you know that it is a community-driven un-conference where attendees are the speakers. It is an event where participants share their knowledge and ideas in an open and collaborative environment. Help us plan the next edition of Barcamp Bangalore

After a long break, Barcamp Bangalore happened last year on November 5. We didn’t know what to expect – but over 150 campers attended Barcamp Bangalore, listening, taking part and discussing over 18 talks, not counting hallway and impromptu talks like making a 3-sided hexaflexagon. It was good to go back to the roots of Barcamp of the yore with a paper wiki to boot 🙂

2023 is here and we’re looking forward to hosting another edition of Barcamp Bangalore. A skeleton crew organized last year’s Barcamp Bangalore, and we’d like to improve upon that. We’re especially looking forward to new people joining in and helping in with the planning – as we’ve often seen, fresh blood often brings fresh new perspectives.

What are the expectations?

We understand you have limited time, so we’d like to make the expectations clear – planners and volunteers meet once a week, usually on Sundays. We organize the entire event, end to end starting from sponsorships and venue and including the websites and logistics (such as doing printouts of banners). Here’s some broad things planners and volunteers look at:

  • Finding and getting sponsorships for the event
  • Coming up with Design – including colour schemes
    • For the website, mobile app
    • Posters, stickers, social media images, etc
  • Update and maintain the website
  • Goodies such fridge magnets, etc.
  • Logistics as visiting the venue, some side photography, arranging food, etc.
  • Some unconventional ideas to keep things fresh

What is Barcamp Bangalore?

bar BarCamp Bangalore is an unconference – an ad hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an opportunity for people to come together to learn, network, and discuss ideas in person. If you’ve always wanted a platform to share, discuss and talk to your peers, then Barcamp is just the platform for you.

When and where is it happening?

Barcamp Bangalore 2022 will be held on November 5, 2022 at RV University, Bangalore.

Do I have to pay anything?

Barcamp is a free event! Just walk in on the day of the event. If you’re like to talk about something, we recommend you put a session proposal so that you see how many are interested in your talk. If you’d like to bring some friends or family with you, that’s even better.

How do I register for the event?

If you plan to talk at the event, follow the steps below:

  • Visit the BarCamp Bangalore website and click on Sign Up (or Login if you already have an existing account) to register.
  • Head over to Add a Session page and enter details about what you will talk about.
    • If you intend to present a short demo about your app, product, project, Techlash might be a better option. Select the category as “Techlash” in this case.
  • Check out the other proposed sessions and click on “I’m interested button” on the sessions that you find interesting.
    • While we as organizers don’t select talks (they are purely on a first-come, first-serve basis), it helps in assigning a slot for the talk to prevent session clashes
  • That’s it! Subscribe to notifications or keep coming back at regular times to find out recent sessions that would have been posted.

If you do not wish to be a speaker at Barcamp – that’s perfectly fine –

  • Visit the BarCamp Bangalore website and click on Sign Up (or Login if you already have an existing account) to register.

  • Click on the “I’m interested” button on the sessions you’re interested in.

Is Barcamp only for tech talks? Can I talk about history, or art?

What time does it start? What is the event format like?

Barcamp Bangalore on-site registrations start at 8 AM. The first session of the day – the Introduction session starts at 9 am. After this, the event breaks out into 6 parallel sessions – each session in it’s own room. The sessions go till 5:30 pm and we sign off for the day with a Feedback session. The overall timetable looks like below:

  • 08:00 – 09:00 : Registrations
  • 09:00 – 09:30 : Introduction
  • 09:45 – 10:30 : Session Slot 1
  • 10:30 – 11:00 : Break 1
  • 11:00 – 11:45 : Session Slot 2
  • 11:45 – 12:30 : Session Slot 3
  • 12:30 – 13:30 : Lunch
  • 13:30 – 14:30 : Techlash
  • 14:30 – 15:15 : Session Slot 4
  • 15:15 – 15:45 : Break 2
  • 15:45 – 16:30 : Session Slot 5
  • 16:30 – 17:15 : Session Slot 6
  • 17:30 – 18:15 : Feedback and Closing

Due to lack of participation and interest from the community, we regret to inform that BCB Monsoon 2019 stands cancelled.

We rely heavily on BCB community to help, participate and run the event; without community support, there is no Barcamp spirit.
